CALIFORNIA CRIME VICTIMS COALITION

“BALANCING THE SCALES FOR VICTIMS”

About

The California Crime Victims Coalition (CCVC) provides coordinated services to all California State employee victims, local victim assistance agencies, judiciary and a variety of victims groups.  The program is based on the premise of supporting victims of work place batteries and victims of violent crimes within our communities. CCVC will help implement programs that will address the long-term impact on victims’ lives.  The California Crime Victims Coalition will be, “Balancing the Scales for Victims”.  CCVC is aware of and sensitive to the plight of victims of violent crime.

CCVC will offer assistance to victims by:

  • Providing support and assistance to victims
  • Being a liaison with community victim/witness agencies
  • Advocating for victims, i.e., legislation, representation
  • Training CCVC activist in areas of post-trauma, victims’ legal rights and sensitivity to victims’ issues and needs
  • Offer assistance to help hold offenders accountable for their behavior
  • Refer to a law firm specializing in the member’s area of concern
  • Refer to a law firm specializing in Civil Litigation, when a victim chooses to follow that action.

Staff Victims Activist

In January of 2002 CCVC enlisted their first victims support activists’ within CDC and CYA. The activists have had the responsibility to help develop programs that will address the long-term impact of victimization of staff. CCVC now has activists within the CHP, local law enforcement agencies, county probation and various victim organizations.

The CCVC has implemented a variety of programs where offenders are held accountable, staff victimization is personalized and victims’ voices are heard.

Victims Services Database

The CCVC database contains confidential victim information.  The database provides consolidated information to activists working with staff victims.  The CCVC will follow a victim’s recovery for two years. The database system is capable of immediately delivering information on the progress of each victim.

Interagency Cooperation

Many of agencies within the State of California have committed to assist CCVC in their mission to support employees of California that have become victims of violent crimes.
